Medical Assistant - Family Practice Clinic
Crittenden Community Hospital has an immediate opening for PRN Medical Assistant at Family Practice Clinic.

JOB SUMMARY:
Medical Assistant provides patient care to clinic patients under the supervision of Physician, ARNP or Office Administrator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Call patients to designated prep rooms.
2.Greet and escort patients from the waiting room to examination rooms if needed.
3.Greet patients and prepare them for physician examination:
a.Assesses patient.
b.Obtains subjective and objective data.
c.Obtains vital signs, height and weight.
d.Instructs the patient on appropriate undress for examination
e.Positions patient appropriately observing safety guidelines alignment.
f.Reviews allergies, medications and immunization history with patient.
g.Explains tests and procedures to patients.
h.Documents data obtained legibly in chart.
I.Signs each entry.
4.Screen patient for appropriate information and document pertinent information in the chart.
5.Keep information in patient charts tidy and current.
a.Document each patient contact.
b.Record phone calls from patients.
6.Maintain current and accurate documentation on each patient.
a.Document vital signs of patient (blood pressure, temperature) at each visit.
b.Record weight of patient at each visit.
c.Take medical history information.
d.Document no shows and cancellations.
7.Dates and initials each vial of medication when opened.
8.Prepare patients for examination by physician.
a.Provide clean exam table paper for patient to sit on.
b.Administer tests and treatments as ordered by the Physician or ARNP’s.
c.Assist the Physician or ARNP’s as needed.
9.Check rooms weekly for necessary supplies; restock supplies weekly; clean rooms with OxiVir room weekly. Ensure that exam rooms are prepared for the day.
10.Prepare specimens and pap smears for send out to the reference lab and maintain log.
11.Report malfunction of medical equipment to Clinic Supervisor.
12.Clean and sterilize equipment. Prepare surgical trays as instructed by Physician or ARNP’s.
13.Administer medications to pediatric and adult patients including subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as ordered by the Physician or ARNP’s. Observe, record, and report patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments.
14.Assist Physician or ARNP’s with office procedures, including gynecological examinations, pap smears, skin lesion removal, suture removal, specimen collection, ear irrigations, and wound and burn dressing. Apply orthopedic devices, including arm slings; wrist, leg, ankle and shoulder splints; and rib belts. Instruct patients in use of crutches. Perform ace wrapping.
15.Wear personal protective equipment as per Exposure Control Plan.
16.Pull lab results from the printer. Attach lab results to chart. Present charts and lab results to Physician or ARNP’s for review. Report lab results to patients and follow through with any physician instructions to patients for follow-up or change in medication.
17.Answer requests from pharmacies for prescription refills, per Physician or ARNP’s instructions.
18.Properly dispose of contaminated and disposable items.
19. On a daily basis, check all medication and appropriately dispose of out-of-dated medications.
20. Instruct patients on how to properly collect urine specimens.
21.Respond to incoming telephone calls. Give appropriate instructions to patients. Document patient contact. Refer information to Physician or ARNP’s, as indicated.
22.Maintain record of narcotics given.
23.Maintain work area in a neat and organized manner; keep surrounding area orderly.
24.Perform EKGs, PFTs, ear lavages, tympanograms, audiograms, vision tests, etc.

All job duties are expected to be completed timely.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION:
Education:High School Education.

Experience:Physician Office experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure:Nursing Assistant Certification preferred.
Current CPR Required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
A.Prolong standing or walking.
B.Lifting and moving patients, equipment and/or supplies.
C.Repeated bending, stooping, and squatting.
D.Exposed to all patient elements.
